Symplectic Dynamics in Montevideo

Workshop, Montevideo, Uruguay, 5-9 February 2024.

About

A workshop at the interface of symplectic geometry and dynamics, with the aim of fostering interaction between researchers, with research talks, but equally complemented by mini-courses for students. An intense area of current research, symplectic dynamics builds on Gromov’s theory of pseudoholomorphic curves, as well as Floer theory, and provides a framework in which to address classical problems, but to also ask new questions. The combination of these tools are responsible for several recent advances in geometry, topology and dynamics, as for instance: (1) the proof of Smale’s simplicity conjecture by Cristofaro-Gardiner–Humilière–Seyfaddini; (2) the proof of the smooth closing lemma by Irie, using the volume property of ECH capacities obtained by Cristofar-Gardiner–Hutchings–Ramos; (3) the advances in the classical restricted three-body problem starting with Albers–Frauenfelder–van Koert–Paternain; (4) and the work of Colin–Dehornoy–Rechtman on the existence of supporting (broken) book decompositions for 3-dimensional Reeb flows. The aim of this meeting will be to build basic groundwork, in order to be able to delve into the above developments.
